Minnie-Online.co.za is a private endeavour. The
owners live in Gordon’s Bay - South Africa.
This site is dedicated to the community and business in the Gordon’s Bay, Strand and
Somerset West. We strive to provide an excellent service to the local community and promote tourism to our
small part of the world.
Gordon’s Bay is closely entwined with the Strand (10
minutes drive) and Somerset West (15 minutes drive). They are surrounded by the picturesque Hottentots Holland
Mountains inland and seaside by False Bay Coast.
It is home to the SA Naval College, only
40 minutes drive to the bright lights of Cape Town and 30 minutes to Cape Town International
Airport.
The climate is typical of coastal resorts, with a winter
rainfall and the well known South Easter or "Cape Doctor" pays regular visits.
A lazy morning's drive will take you to the world renowned
wine routes of Stellenbosch and Franschoek. A short distance further is Paarl and Wellington which is famous
for its dried fruit and wines.
Close is the Helderberg Wine Route and Brewery.
Crossing Sir Lowry's Pass take you to the fruit route at Elgin and Grabouw. This village is on the scenic
coastal route to Hermanus and the whale route. During September/October, whales can be seen frolicking in False
Bay.
Gordon's Bay is famous for its safe bathing, with both Main
and Bikini Beaches attracting thousands of happy sun worshippers. Fishing from the rocks and the old harbour
wall is a popular pastime with locals and visitors alike, sharing stories about "the big one that got away". Or
else boat and surf angling can also be enjoyed.
Yachting, deep-sea diving and angling ensure that Gordon's
Bay is a sportsman’s ideal holiday destination. Pleasure trips on luxury yachts and cruisers are available from
the two harbours while Steenbras Dam is sought after as a picnic spot.
Visitors can browse around the curio and gift shops along
the beach front for unusual crafts.
Walks and Trails
- Take a leisurely walk above the village on the Danie Miller trail.
- Explore the historic cannon and wagon wheel walk at Sir Lowry's Pass. - Enjoy the sound of running water and a dip in Crystal Pool up Steenbras Valley.
Accommodation
Gordon's Bay caters for all with the municipal resort, situated next to the beach, offering self-catering holiday cottages and caravan sites. A private resort offers similar facilities. Guest houses are all near the beach, with bed and breakfast at nearby Country Inns.
Restaurants
Restaurants offer a wide choice of culinary delights and can be found in and around the two harbours, with most enjoying sea vistas. Take-Away outlets are popular and cater for all tastes, from pizzas to hamburgers to hot fish and chips - delightful!

Malls
A charming mini-mall, curio and bric-a-brac shops in Beach Road, a supermarket, filling station and pharmacies adequately provide for the needs of visitors, while Somerset Mall (which caters for every need) is a mere 15 minutes drive away.
