There are a lot of things I miss about my college days. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of these pathetically nostalgic people who constantly look back to “the best years of my life”. In a lot of ways, college was hard, and in even more ways, my current life is rewarding. I have a great job, a wife who loves me, a nice house, and two beautiful children. Still, there were a lot of great things about being a student too. Although I was often strapped for cash, I managed to have a lot of fun. I dated, parties, travelled, and had time to engage in one of my greatest passions: learning. Yet one of my favorite things about being a student was getting student discounts. This might seem like a trivial focus, but it felt nice to have people reaching out to me simply because of my age and station in life. I'm not talking just about student academic discounts either. It is true that it is easy to get a student discount on computers, software, and other education related stuff. In the college town I was living in, if you showed your student card you would get 10% off at practically any place that sold academic supplies. Student discounts, however, went much further than this. The best were the student travel discounts. Nowadays, although I earn quite a bit of money, travelling is still more difficult than when I was a broke student. Back then, I could go anywhere. I could get a student travel package to Europe, save up all semester, and live cheaply while hiking around some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. The travel companies knew that college kids love to travel, so they would make student discounts available. If you were willing to stay in youth hostels and eat cheaply, you could have fun and adventure almost anywhere. It really is a great activity for the carefree and young. Of course, even when I wasn't engaged in great adventures around the world, I could still benefit from student discounts in my spare time. Around town, almost every cultural event had discounts for students. You could go see a movie, go to the theatre, or see a concert and get discount rates. A lot of the companies knew that students were notoriously cheap. Even those with money would not come unless they offered the students discounts. As a result, we all got great deals.

If Regular Airfare Comparison is Too Complicated, Try a Meta-Search Engine Now It used to be that the best way you could dig up information on the best airfare deals out there would be to visit all the travel agents and spend the best part of a day on it. And then, just as the travel agents were getting a little secure in their indispensability, the Internet came along and took the food out of their mouths. There are travel websites that listed fares on every flight to every destination. There are so many websites that clicking and searching on all of them is a real chore. A survey was done by a Web traffic researching company, which you see published on all kinds of blogs these days. It founded that people in general have to visit 20 different websites before they actually make a ticket purchase. It does seem preposterous that information that is digitized and online is not available at one place only. Airfare comparison should be so much easier that way. It used to be this way with search engines too when Google didn't tower above everyone else. When people thought that all search engines were more or less the same, they would search on AltaVista, Ask Jeeves, MSN and so on, until they grew sick of it. Then came the meta-search engines. You just had to put your search down in one box and it would go around all the search engines for you and give you the top results from each one of them. That's what they wish to do for airfare comparison too now. Meta-searching for the best travel deal. Not that this is completely without its complications. There are many competing meta-search websites and you'll probably feel the need to search on all of them. But that's getting ahead of us. Let us just look at how one meta-search works, one at a time. They go by names like Microsoft's Bing Travel, Kayak and Fly. You might find it hard to believe that there should be any difference between these. They all go to the Airline Tariff Publishing Company for their airfare comparison information. But there are reasons to distinguish between the services. You don't just want the fare planner when you go search for flight information. You also want to know how many seats are left on the flight, what each airline charges for extra baggage and so on. Bing Travel has a great new feature. It tries to predict for you which fares are the likeliest to change over the coming day, to rise or fall. Kayak will give you the baggage calculator information and the number of seats remaining on each flight. Fly seems to search the farthest and the deepest to find a low-priced ticket for you. For the best airfare comparison, nothing seems to beat Fly. They search Travelocity, Hotwire and consolidators like Vayama. It all comes down to individual experience which meta- searcher works best for you. [...]
Everyone could use a little time away from their everyday life. With the economy in shambles and people’s stress levels at an all-time high, planning a vacation may be a necessity to even survive. Of course, not everyone can plan and pay for some lavish getaway. Sometimes, finances may hinder the actual destination of your getaway, but you can still make something happen. Ideally, the best way to escape is when you look into all-inclusive travel. Some of the prices may look a little bit intimidating but when you’re going to need a flight, hotel and meals, it truly can be the best way to go. When booking an all-inclusive travel package, you may actually end up saving quite a bit of money. How is that possible? It’s simple. The travel package is most likely going to include your round trip airfare, your room or overnight accommodations, all meals, drinks, taxes and tips. If you have to pay for all of that on an individual basis, you may find that those little details could add up to double the price that you will be paying for an all-inclusive travel package. Going on a cruise? You don’t want to see what your bill would be for all of the alcoholic beverages, or even non-alcoholic drinks for your entire trip. Many travellers just about had a heart or a panic attack when the cruise reaches its final destination and they are responsible for paying for not only the drinks, but the gratuities as well. Suddenly, the end of their vacation leaves them not as peaceful as they should be at the end of a relaxing trip. Your all inclusive travel package could lead you to places that you never thought you could afford to see. Right now, travel is quite a bargain. You may not be able to name your own price, but you may be able to get a much better deal than you would have a few years ago. Let’s face it – people can’t afford all of the luxuries anymore. Their travel plans may be the first thing that they cut back on. When there are not as many people travelling the world, the prices tend to go down. If the price goes down – travel destinations want to lure in as many people as possible. The best way to draw people in is to lower the prices. Suddenly, a travel package may end up being a price that you can afford. You can find tons of travel deals all over the internet. However, before you decide to make any payments or purchase anything definite, make sure you do some shopping around. Just because one site has a great deal doesn’t mean that another site won’t have another price that will save you a few extra dollars or offer a different location that may be even more appealing. You could contact a travel agent and put them to work to find you the best all-inclusive travel deal. Or, you [...]
Planning a family vacation is never easy, especially when money is a real concern. You don’t have to have a relative who works for a travel agent to find cheap package holidays for you and your family to enjoy. There are plenty of reasons that you want to consider a package getaway when you are making your plans for your retreat. Cheap package holidays are almost similar to buying things in bulk. The larger quantities you buy, the more you will get for your money. When working with an agent or when planning on your own, keep in mind that you will find the best deal if you plan well and think far in advance. One thing to consider on you family vacation is how long you are going to stay on your trip. When taking the buying in bulk approach, you really want to make the trip last as long as possible. You can find a cheap package holiday that spans as long as an entire month or as short as a weekend. If you choose the weekend holiday, then you can expect to spend more for less experience. After all, you will be spending money on airfare and accommodations as well as entertainment. Even cheap package holidays offer outstanding activities and excellent places to stay but you will spend more if you are only there for a couple days. Take the cheap package holiday in its entirety. The individuals who build these deals do better if they can get quantity over quality. The bigger the turnover, the more they will make. However, it is just too much of a risk to give up a cheap holiday package that is only a few days long. What if no one else buys a package? The companies that create cheap package holidays are thrilled to accommodate a group for a longer period. They are receiving a steady income rather than sporadic money from weekend holiday retreats. They charge more money for the short stays but making less money overall. When planning your getaway you want to invest at least one week to your retreat. This is the best way to find the best deal on your cheap package holiday. You can expect to have a great time and you will definitely get the most for your money if you offer a lot of time for you vacation.
